  Gingrich, Paul, and Romney - December 12, 2011

ccAdvertising has initiated a series of weekly surveys, to both landline and mobile phones, to gauge current levels of support for possible Republican presidential candidates nationwide.

This week, ccAdvertising polled the popularity of GOP primary frontrunners Newt Gingrich, Mitt Romney, and Ron Paul in the first four Primary states of Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina and Florida.

Reflecting a trend ccAdvertising has been tracking for several weeks, this survey shows a significant drop in Self-Identified Democrats and a significant increase in Self-Identified Independents in the 4-targeted states. At the same time, the percentage of Self-Identified Republican respondents has not changed significantly.

The survey ran on December 11 and 12, 2011. 11,887 people participated in the survey. The following chart shows the support for each candidate:

Demographically, of all respondents who participated in surveys conducted December 11-12:

  • 38.88% are Republican.
  • 26.21% are Democrat.
  • 34.91% are Independent.
  • 41.96% have a favorable opinion of President Obama.
  • 29.81% are supporters of the Tea Party.
  • 27.12% support the Occupy Wall Street movement.
  • 78.95% are concerned about the high price of gasoline.
  • 71.66% support off-shore drilling.
  • 27.62% are concerned about losing their job.
  • 36.67% feel that they are better off now than they were four years ago.
  • 77.83% are anti-tax.
  • 57.54% are pro-life.
  • 58.95% are traditional marriage supporters.
  • 64.39% support gun owners' rights.
  • 48.16% use Facebook.
  • 10.37% use Twitter.
  • 48.86% are male.
  • 64.92% are 50 years of age or older.
  President Obama, Weekly Poll Performance
During 2011, ccAdvertising has been tracking how Barack Obama compares against named, generic, unnamed Republican and even fictional candidates. Since July 2011, Obama has not polled greater than 46% support, regardless of the candidate he opposes. Obama's support has ranged between 36% and 46%. This is a significant statistic, reflecting that the pending Presidential election is currently more about how Barack Obama is defined and less about his opponent, even if that opponent is not a real or known candidate.
